How to install gamedata folders
« on: August 20, 2007, 04:09:40 AM »
Arcade version: All versions.

Some games you get from around the internet have a gamedata folder with them. The gamedata folder contains files that are needed for the game you just downloaded to work in your arcade. What you need to do is via FTP you need to create a folder in your fourm directory called arcade, inside of that folder you need to create another folder called gamedata.
Once you've done that then you need to take the gamedata folder that came with the game and copy it to your newly created gamesdata folder in your FTP.When you're done the path to the directory wil be yourforumdirectory>arcade>gamedata.

Let us know if you need any help with this. :thumb:

This should help...if users take the time to read or search for it. LOL

By default, what if the games go into the arcade folder? Wouldn't that make it easier for extraction?

I searched for it! ;)

Thank you very much, I have seen many games I wanted and could not use. :)

What about a game that doesn't have a gamedata folder but references an XML file within the same folder as the game?  I've tried making a gamedata folder for it and it still only get's to the preloader because it can't find the XML file.

I've tried putting the direct path in my address bar and it works fine.  It's just within SMF arcade it doesn't seem to find it.

I would imaging that this version of the arcade doesn't support that type of game format.Maybe future releashes will. Not all games will work with smfarcade but there are plenty of sites that have games that will. :thumb:

Ok this may be a stupid question but I have a bunch of game packs installed and gamepack 13 had some I already have installed and some I don't.  Can I just delete out the 3 files for the game I already have?

Thanks!  Love this mod!

Yes you can.Does it show up as doubles?I think it will just copy over the games and you shouldn't have to.Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

No it didn't list 'em as double as I hadn't tried to install it yet.  Having double games was what I was trying to avoid.  I guess I will just go ahead and install then!  8) :D :o

Thanks!

I've been having trouble with games with "gamedata" folder from day one with regards to submitting scores.

I've done the obvious, i.e. /yourdomain/forum/arcade/gamedata/gamestuff

I am using SMF 1.1.5 and SMF arcade 2.0.13. Now I was completely stumped and thought that perhaps my hosting provider GoDaddy was at fault somehow. I have another site hosted with them and today I installed SMF arcade on it, same versions, and the high scores submissions are working fine!
Is there anything I can check to compare the two installations to see where the problem is coming from?

This problem is driving me nuts!

Like I said, games with gamedata folders are working fine when submitting scores on a seperate test website using same versions of SMF Arcade and SMF. (2.0.13  and 1.1.5)
I tried uninstalling SMF Arcade, and re-installing it. No luck.
I thought maybe the template was at fault, but on diffrent templates still same problem.

When I try submitting scores with games that have gamedata folder, it just freezes up!

Can anybody recommend perhaps what php files I should copy over from the working site to the problematic one?

Please help!

If thats happening ONLY with gamedata games then theres a problem with the arcade/gamedata folders check them for permissions and obviously that the data is in the correct folder.

If its happening with all games then check Admin>Settings>Url to games

Sometimes that path needs the www. prefix sometimes it needs it removed.
