Ambient arcade noise (or music if preferred)
« on: July 10, 2010, 05:24:42 PM »
SMF - Premiumbeat mp3 player v1.4

I put together another modification recently that plays mp3's on smf forums using a portal block, allowing all settings and data to be adjusted/entered in the admin settings instead of manually editing xml files.

It allows for block specific playlists, so one can set up music or ambient sounds for specific boards/placements.

This will allow forum admins to set up ambient sounds (or music if you want) in the arcade for example.
I thought some people may be interested in this..

Here is the mod: CLICK HERE

It will work with both SMF versions.

Thanks... Someone recently asked me to make an mp3 player for SMF and I didn't see anything like this available for SMF yet (as a package install)  so I put this together using Premiumbeats swf mp3 player (with permission of course).

This player should NOT require any users to download plugins less the one needed to view swf files.
Outside mp3 source files for shared hosting are suggested.

There are many sites that offer free mp3 samples, especially for ambient type sounds. All that is required is the url pointing to the mp3 file.

Currently, the block code is set up not to play any files while playing games (obviously that wouldn't sound good.. lol).
I can also help people with a small adjustment to the block code to allow the player to play during a specific game... for games that have no music or few sounds and ambient noise for that game may be preferred.

I have a game called fresh air solitare which plays occasional bird song. I often play the game just for the ambient feel it gives, so yes ambient sounds are a thumbs up for me.
